A PGA Tour golf event called the Tour Championship (stylized as the TOUR Championship) is held each year. The top 30 money earners from the previous PGA Tour season made up the whole field until 2007. The top 30 money earners from the previous PGA Tour season made up the whole field prior to 2007. It has a history of being a PGA Tour event that concludes the season.

It was the fourth and final tournament in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which began in 2007. Eligibility was based on FedEx Cup points earned throughout the regular season. The Tour Championship is now staged in late August rather than mid-September, while the FedEx Cup has been scaled back to just three events starting in 2019.

In 2007, the four-tournament FedEx Cup Playoffs were capped with the Tour Championship, which had been shifted from November to mid-September. 30 players qualified for the competition, like in previous years, although prize money was no longer a factor. Instead, the players were chosen according on their FedEx Cup standings after the three playoff events and the regular PGA Tour season.

In order to ensure that any of the top five FedEx Cup point leaders entering The Tour Championship would win the match, points were awarded and distributed beginning in 2009. This ensured that the player would also win the FedEx Cup if any of those players finished first. As a result, winning the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup by different players was still conceivable. For instance, Tiger Woods won the Tour Championship in 2018 but placed second in the FedEx Cup, while Justin Rose won the FedEx Cup despite finishing the competition tied for fourth. This is because Woods began the Tour Championship in 20th place overall while Rose was in second place.

The FedEx Cup was no longer the season’s last tournament after the Tour’s Fall Series, which was introduced in 2007, determined the remaining 125 best players qualified for the following year’s competition. The Tour Championship, however, began serving as the PGA Tour’s season finale in 2013. Seasons start on the calendar in October of the previous year. Since 2007, everybody who qualified for the Tour Championship received an invitation to the Masters Tournament. Due to tournament cancellations caused by the corona virus pandemic, players who qualify for the Tour Championship in 2020 will also receive an invitation to the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

It had been criticized that holes 18 at East Lake Golf Club, a par 3, and lacked excitement for spectators because it was a par 3. The PGA Tour started flipping the nines at East Lake for the Tour Championship in 2016, which results in a more thrilling par 5 holes where play concludes.

  2. Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!

  3. With havin so much written content do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright infringement? My blog has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my agreement. Do you know any solutions to help protect against content from being ripped off? I’d certainly appreciate it.
